Egyptian Two Color Faience Bes Amulet Late Period, ca. 715-330 BC. A degraded turquoise and yellow faience amulet of Bes. The naked dwarf-like god stands on characteristic bandy legs with hands positioned on the hips and wears tall plumes atop his head. Bes was a protective "genie" of sorts who warded off evil influences at childbirth. Amulets of Bes were particularly worn in life, especially by women and children. H. 1 1/2" (3.8 cm).
