Inca Black Stone Conopa Vessel ca. 14th to 15th Century AD. Conopas were pre-Columbian stone vessels carved in the stylized shape of a llama or alpaca. These vessels have a cylindrical hole in the back to place offerings of cocoa leaves, maize and sometimes beautiful little shells or stones for the gods. Such vessels were buried in the corrals of llamas and alpacas by the highlands dwelling Inca as protective amulets to bring prosperity to the owner and fertility to the camelids.
