Japanese Bronze Pair of Karashishi Meiji Period, Late 19th Century. This is a very finely sculpted pair of Buddhist lions or "Foo Dogs", modeled on earlier Japanese types which borrow from Chinese Tang dynasty styles and look more like the lions of the buddha (Foo) than dogs. The well chased lions sit up boldly on a raised plinth with olive green patination. Excellent condition. H. 3 3/4" (9.5 cm).
