| Artist Info (scroll down for paintings): Born in Algiers, Deshayes began studying art in 1880. In 1882, he moves to Paris to continue his studies and enters the workshop of Jean-Leon Gerome. He returns to Algiers in 1890, and travels to Morocco and Tunisia. He achieves great success as a painters, and in 1923 is named the painter of the Navy, and in 1935 receives the Legion d’Honor.
