A thorough and detailed account of the history of Jewish Coinage. Madden begins by describing the early use of silver for trading among the Hebrews before their exile. The money employed by the Jews after their return from Babylon is then detailed. The coinages of Simon the Maccabee, John Hyrcanus, Alexander Jannaeus, Hyrcanus II, Antigonus are also covered as well as the coins under the Idumaean Princes, the Procurators and, the First Revolt. Roman emperors Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian struck coins commemorating the capture of Jerusalem which are also included in this work.
